About
I’m a forty-something man living in Central Virginia in the United States. My interests are motorcycles, math, interesting old computer hardware, tennis, software development, my dog and cars. If I lived closer to water I would probably have to include sailing. My family fits in there somewhere as well.
I worked for nearly twenty years for Sperry Marine doing technical work -first in Engineering, then IT and finally in Marketing. I am an engineer by education, and much of the time I was at Sperry I spent developing sofware or managing the process. I have always managed to keep my fingers in computer software, but after drifting into domains less technical, I recently decided to return to software development as a profession.
Keep in mind that chronologically this site is a bit twisted because I converted a journal I have been keeping for several years into retroactive postings. It recounts my experiences setting up several Fedora servers, integrating them initially with my old Netware 4.2 servers and gradually moving back into software development as I learned Ruby, Rails and Javascript on my own.
